FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS (FMA)

Email:  pdskenon'at'earthlink.net (replace 'at' with @)

The systems and styles of FMA are extremely diverse and numerous with the roots dating to the time before Christ on the Philippine Islands.

FMA are unique in many ways:

  1. They teach the use of basic and practical weapons immediately.  This is to enhance awareness, coordination, timing, and broken rhythm.
  2. They are complete in addressing the use of a weapon, defending against weapons, and using tactics against multiple attackers in all 4 ranges of combat.

The training is dynamic and combative with almost all training done with a partner to develop timing, flow, and practical skills.  There are no forms or kata to learn.

The training consists of double baton, single baton, dagger, baton and dagger, and empty hands including:  foot, knee, hip, fist, open hand, elbow, shoulder and head as weapons.  Additionally, training involves grappling, throws, takedowns, and restraints.
