Welcome to Three Rivers Aikido

Welcome to Three Rivers Aikido. Elliot Freeman is the Chief Instructor of the Three Rivers Aikido dojo. He has been training and teaching in Aikido for over 25 years, and has been in the martial arts almost 35 years. His teacher is Master Steven Seagal, 7th degree black belt. He is our link to Hombu Dojo, the founding world Aikido organization.
Aikido training is taught in a non-competitive and cooperative manner emphasizing defense: not getting grabbed, not getting struck and not getting taken down to the ground. This is what makes Aikido unlike the kicking, punching, and blocking of Karate or wrestling aspects of Judo. Arm and leg immobilizations, pressure points, and deflections are emphasized in our training, making Aikido available to anyone interested in training in the Martial Arts.

News and Recent Events

Follow-Up Cleveland Seminar:
Due to the wild success of the
Cleveland seminar in February, 2007, a follow-up seminar has been scheduled for the weekend of June 30th, 2007. Sensei Freeman and Three Rivers Aikido would like to extend a special thanks to Vladimir Soroka, Dojo Cho of Three Streams Aikido, Cleveland for organizing and hosting the February event. Vladimir Soroka has been a long standing personal student of Sensei Elliot Freeman and all of Three Rivers Aikido and our extended families would like to congratulate Soroka Sensei for his opening of the newest Tenshin dojo under Sensei Freeman. As a result of the wide interest in Sensei Freeman's Randori Seminars, the June 30th seminar will focus on its unique deflection systems on Friday and Saturday and will continue on Sunday with different multiple attack principles and scenarios. The June seminar will review and expand on techniques from the basics to Tenshin's special insight on randori. For details on the June seminar, check out the Three Streams Aikido website.

Visit with Seagal Sensei:
On November 17th, 2006, Freeman Sensei along with Angulo Sensei and Mr.
Infante from Tenshin dojo in Miami visited with Seagal Sensei at his home in Los Angeles and discussed the future and direction of Tenshin Aikido. Among the things which were discussed was the need for regular training with Seagal Sensei, and to this end a seminar has been tentatively scheduled for the weekend of March 16th in Los Angeles, CA.  For more on this trip, and to see some photos, click here

On a somewhat unpleasant note, it has come to the attention of Seagal Sensei that a former student of his has chosen to act in a less than ethical manner in an attempt to obtain rank from Hombu dojo.  Seagal Sensei has written a letter to Hombu dojo concerning the matter, and a copy of it can be seen here.

Three Rivers Aikido East Seminar:
Sensei Freeman will help celebrate the opening of the Three Rivers Aikido East dojo in
Effingham, IL on Saturday, March 17th, 2007. For details, check out the Three Rivers Aikido East website.

Cleveland Seminar:
Sensei Freeman will be teaching a seminar in
Cleveland Friday, February 23rd, Saturday, February 24th and Sunday, February 25th. Sensei Freeman’s seminars are an annual event not to be missed. He has earned a reputation both here and abroad for teaching single and multiple attack scenarios that are simple, realistic and effective. This seminar traditionally covers a large scope of Tenshin Aikido, from basic through advanced techniques. For details, click here
